The first Etude, allegro, in C major, gives the impression of some emancipated sonority bursting in upon us. The waves of figurations – given to the pianist’s right hand – move along the entire space of the keyboard, modulating their course in keeping with a logic derived from Bach. The right hand intones a kind of hymn. There is no piano; forte reigns here from the first note to the last. Only when the narrative steps into a minor-mode area does the tone colour dim for a moment.Author: Mieczysław TomaszewskiA series of programmes entitled ‘Fryderyk Chopin's Complete Works’Polish Radio 2
