The third of the Op. 41 Mazurkas is in the key of A flat major. It brings rhythms and intonations heard undoubtedly in the Cuiavia region. After the opening theme, its complement brings a subtle layering of the narration, led in two parts. A particularly beautiful moment comes before the reprise. The softened melody (sotto voce) suddenly finds itself at a crossroads. The A flat major Mazurka emanates folk-like simplicity and modesty, but also a subtlety of pianistic means.Author: Mieczysław TomaszewskiA series of programmes entitled ‘Fryderyk Chopin's Complete Works’Polish Radio 2
