Kevin Kenner

Kevin

A milestone for pianist Kevin Kenner was the year 1990, when he gained worldwide recognition by taking top spot in the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw, as well as coming second in the International Terence Judd Award in London, and third at the Pyotr Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. Born in southern California, he became interested in Polish music at an early age and as a teenager studied with Krzysztof Brzuza and later in Cracow with Ludwik Stefański. He continued his studies with Leon Fleisher and Karl-Heinz Kammerling and honed his skills with Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Music Center. He has played and recorded with Kyung Wha Chung, as well as the Tokyo, Escher, Belcea, Mosaiques, Apollon Musagete, Endellion and Vogler quartets. He has performed many times at festivals in Verbier and Warsaw (‘Chopin and his Europe’). Phonographic recordings, praised by Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine, featuring his performances released by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute include Chopin’s songs (with Olga Pasichnyk), an album of Chopin’s piano concertos in the chamber version (with the Apollon Musagete Quartet and Sławomir Rozlach) and a period piano recital in the ‘Real Chopin’ series. For over a decade, he taught at the Royal College of Music in London, and he now teaches at the Frost School of Music attached to the University of Miami, where he has trained many talented young pianists. He has been a juror of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw and the Busoni Competition in Bolzano.
