Sa Chen
One of China’s most promising pianists, honoured with a ‘Chopin Passport’ by the Polish Government for her sensitive and profound interpretations of Chopin’s music. In recent seasons, she has toured as soloist/conductor with the Hungarian Chamber Orchestra throughout Germany. Other highlights include touring China with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in Chopin’s concertos, a Schubert Lieder concert tour with German baritone Matthias Goerne, recitals at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg and the Theatre des Champs- Elysees in Paris, and concerto performances under the baton of Jaap Van Zweden and Charles Dutoit. Since winning major prizes in top international piano competitions in her early teens (Leeds, Chopin, Cliburn), Sa has performed with prestigious orchestras, such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, China Philharmonic Orchestra and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. She has also given memorable performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Barbican Centre and Wigmore Hall in London, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Sydney Opera House, Suntory Concert Hall in Tokyo, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and elsewhere. Her enthusiasm for chamber music has led her to music festivals in Lockenhaus, Salzburg, the Ruhr Valley, Duszniki and St Petersburg. In October 2024, Sa Chen and her agency Ateliersa independently released her latest album, produced by Rainer Maillard and EBS Studios of Berlin, featuring Liszt’s Sonata in B minor and Schumann’s Kreisleriana. Sa has recorded 11 albums for JVC and IMC in Japan, Pentatone in the Netherlands, BIS in Sweden and Decca Asia. Since 2016, Sa Chen has sat on the jury of prestigious competitions, such as the Chopin in Warsaw, the Leeds and the Busoni in Italy.
