Nelson Goerner
He is among the most outstanding pianists of his generation. He has performed with leading orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, philharmonic ensembles of Los Angeles and Monte Carlo, National Orchestra of Spain, Sinfonia Varsovia and Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, and with prominent conductors including Alain Altinoglu, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Frans Bruggen, Mark Elder, Philippe Herreweghe, Neeme Jarvi, Paavo Jarvi, Jonathan Nott, Fabio Luisi, Vasily Petrenko and Esa-Pekka Salonen. He is also a frequent guest at festivals, including the Salzburg Festspiele, La Roque-d’Antheron, Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse, La Grange de Meslay, the Edinburgh, Schleswig- Holstein and Verbier festivals, and the BBC Proms. A passionate chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with Martha Argerich, Renaud Capucon, Sol Gabetta, Gary Hoffman, Alexei Ogrintchouk and Tedi Papavrami. In the 2024/25 season, he tours across Europe with a new trio alongside Ning Feng and Edgar Moreau. He maintains close ties with the Mozarteum Argentino in Buenos Aires and has long collaborated with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, for which he has recorded several albums that have received multiple Diapason d’Or awards. Goerner records primarily for Alpha Classics, and his discography includes works by Liszt, Albeniz, Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Schumann, Faure and Franck. He has been awarded Poland’s ‘Gloria Artis’ Gold Medal for services to culture, and in 2019 he received the Platinum Konex Award from the Konex Foundation in Buenos Aires. Nelson Goerner was born in San Pedro, Argentina, in 1969. He studied in his native country with Jorge Garrubba, Juan Carlos Arabian and Carmen Scalcione. After winning the Ferenc Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires in 1986, he perfected his skills at the Geneva Conservatory under the guidance of Maria Tipo. In 1990 he won the Geneva International Music Competition. He lives in Switzerland with his wife and son. Nelson Goerner is an active supporter of the humanitarian organization Ammala.
