Chopin at the Museum

28/04/2025

The time of the Preliminaries to the 19th Chopin Competition is a good time to visit museums dedicated to the composer. The Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw and The Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin and Park in Żelazowa Wola are hosting temporary exhibitions, as well as piano recitals, lectures and classes for the youngest music lovers.

“I am in some strange space” – FLORE photography exhibition

The FLORE photography exhibition at the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin and Park in Żelazowa Wola is one of the projects implemented thanks to the cooperation between the Chopin Institute and the Centre des monuments nationaux. The works presented at the exhibition are the fruit of the project “Je suis dans des mondes étranges” carried out at the House of George Sand in Nohant as part of an artistic residency of the author of the photographs. The series of dreamlike black-and-white photographs prompts reflection on memory, recollection and the indelible – despite the passage of years – imprint left by the two artists, whose relationship was based on both closeness and contradictions.

The exhibition can be seen until June 22, 2025, during the opening hours of the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin and Park in Żelazowa Wola:

  • March 1 to April 30: 10–18
  • May 1 to June 22: 10–20

Also returning to Żelazowa Wola from May are weekend Chopin recitals, held every Saturday and Sunday at 12 and 3 p.m.

FRYDERYK CHOPIN MUSEUM IN WARSAW

Until May 18, the Chopin Museum in Warsaw is hosting the exhibition “Formally speaking. Sculptural Images of Fryderyk Chopin”. The exhibition presents eighteen sculptural portraits of Fryderyk Chopin from the Museum's collection. All of them were made in the 20th century by different artists, and their formal diversity testifies to the fact that today attempts to recreate the composer's appeal largely consist in shaping his image according to one's own imagination.

At the museum you can also see the composer's correspondence and musical autographs, presented in temporary shows:

  • Chopin's Letters: John Broadwood & Sons – English pianos
  • Chopin's manuscript: Sketch autograph of contrapuntal exercises

On weekends, the tour can be combined with listening to a piano recital. The concerts are held in the Museum's concert hall on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Chopin repertoire is presented by graduates of music schools and colleges and winners of Polish and international piano competitions. Admission to the concert included in the Museum ticket.

Opening hours of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum:

  • Tuesday–Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • free admission day: Wednesday.

On May 1–3 the Museum will be open according to the usual schedule.
