Chopin. Music of the City

09/12/2025

Each edition of the Chopin Competition is unique and inimitable – however, they certainly have one thing in common: they generate enormous positive energy, drawing ever-increasing audiences to the highest levels of musical art. Jerzy Waldorff’s statement, which perfectly summarizes the role of this event, has remained relevant for decades: ‘During the Chopin Competition, Warsaw is the most extraordinary city in the world, enchanted, intoxicated by music. And that’s worth seeing!’

The 19th edition in 2025 proves that – repeated in official and unofficial statements, publications, and reports – the description of Warsaw as the ‘capital of world pianism’ during the Competition is not a trivial slogan. For three weeks, the city has lived and breathed Chopin’s music. The emotions of this time and the fantastic atmosphere are captured in the documentary ‘Chopin. Music of the City,’ produced by Culture.pl – the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and directed by Filip Dowjat.

We invite you to watch it and share your impressions and memories in the comments!
