George Sand (1804–1876). In a kaleidoscope of life and art – a new temporary exhibition in Żelazowa Wola

The temporary exhibition George Sand (1804–1876). In a kaleidoscope of life and art, organised to mark the 150th anniversary of the writer’s death, will reveal little-known aspects of her life to visitors to the Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace in Żelazowa Wola. George Sand, an admirer of Fryderyk Chopin’s talent, supported artists, respected and protected nature, and took an interest in the arts. Sand’s many passions still resonate in her original literary and epistolary works, in her watercolours, including unique dendrites and herbariums, and even in everyday objects. 

For the first time in Poland, over 100 objects from the most important European collections associated with George Sand and Fryderyk Chopin will be presented in a single exhibition: 

• Fryderyk Chopin Museum, Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Warsaw
• Maison de George Sand, Nohant-Vic, Centre des monuments nationaux, Paris
• Musée George Sand et de la Vallée noire, La Châtre 
• Maison de George Sand, Gargilesse
• The Boutroux-Fèrra Collection, Valldemossa

The exhibtion will open on Saturday 11 July 2026 and will be available to the public until Sunday 10 January 2027.

The exhibition has been organised under a partnership agreement between the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and the Centre des monuments nationaux.

The exhibition was funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition.
