ORLEN has extended its sponsorship of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. The continuation of this partnership will enable the implementation of a wide-ranging programme of musical events designed to promote the composer’s legacy in Poland and around the world. The collaboration also provides for support for the educational activities carried out by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. ORLEN has been supporting the institution since 2016.
Under the terms of the agreement, ORLEN will act as a patron of the institution for the next two years, with the intention of continuing the partnership in 2028. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute is one of Poland’s most important cultural centres and the organiser of one of the world’s most prestigious classical music competitions, held every five years in Warsaw – the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.
Among the most significant events sponsored by ORLEN is the 22nd edition of the ‘Chopin and His Europe’ Music Festival, during which artists and orchestras from around the world perform in Warsaw’s leading concert halls. Next year, ORLEN will support the celebrations marking the centenary of the Chopin Competition, and the following year – the 3rd International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments. The partnership also involves the organisation of numerous concerts, including those marking the composer’s birthday and the anniversary of his death, as well as those held as part of the summer concert series in Żelazowa Wola.
– Our partnership with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute is an example of long-term patronage based on trust and a shared responsibility for our national heritage. We are keen for this partnership to continue to develop in the years to come. To date, we have carried out many important projects together. Among these, last year’s 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition holds a special place, serving as a showcase for Polish culture around the world and promoting pianistic talent. I am also delighted that, thanks to our involvement, the Fryderyk Chopin Museum has added priceless manuscripts to its collection – the composer’s letters and scores, including the exceptional Ballade in G minor, as well as historical pianos from Chopin’s era – says Sylwia Snopkiewicz, ORLEN’s Executive Director for Sponsorship.
ORLEN also supports the day-to-day operations of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, including the running of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw and Fryderyk Chopin’s Birthplace and Park in Żelazowa Wola – sites visited by guests from all over the world and vital for promoting the composer’s work. The institution also runs educational initiatives, including museum lessons, outdoor events, the Young Talents programme and scholarships for young artists.
– Thanks to our long-standing partnership with the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute’s principal patron, we will be organising a number of major Chopin-related events over the coming year. In just a few months’ time, we will be hosting the next ‘Chopin and His Europe’ festival, featuring virtually all the winners of the most recent Chopin Competition, whilst next year we will be celebrating the centenary of the Competition. ‘We will be celebrating both the launch of this event and the fact that Warsaw has been hosting the world’s most outstanding pianists for a hundred years. Our partnership with Orlen enables us to organise not only our most important artistic events, but also the entire educational programme associated with the Fryderyk Chopin Museum,’ emphasises Dr Artur Szklener, Director of the Chopin Institute.
The Fryderyk Chopin Institute was established in 2001 under the Act on the Protection of Fryderyk Chopin’s Heritage. In fulfilling the tasks entrusted to it in this regard by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Institute carries out comprehensive and constantly evolving activities, encompassing artistic, academic, educational, promotional and dissemination projects relating to Chopin’s legacy in both its tangible and intangible dimensions, and among the projects it organises are, among others, the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, the ‘Chopin and his Europe’ festival, the Chopin Competition on Period Instruments, international conferences and congresses on Chopin studies, long-term digitisation and phonographic projects, and the running of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw, together with its branch – the Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace and the Park in Żelazowa Wola – to name but a few of its activities.
