The exhibition “100 Years of the Chopin Competition” at Piłsudski Square

20/11/2025

The 19th Chopin Competition concluded a month ago, yet preparations are already underway for the celebration of the event’s centenary.

At Marshal Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, visitors can view the open-air exhibition “100 Years of the Chopin Competition”, which presents photographs and posters from all editions of the event—from the inaugural competition in 1927 to the 19th edition, which ended one month ago. We encourage you to take a walk and explore the history of the Competition, whose grand jubilee will be celebrated in just two years.

The exhibition is located in a place closely connected with Fryderyk Chopin. The Saski Palace, destroyed in 1944, served as his home for five years. When, in September 1810, Mikołaj Chopin received an offer to teach French at the Warsaw Lyceum, the Chopin family moved from Żelazowa Wola to Warsaw. They were able to move into the Palaca in 1812 and until 1817, they lived in an apartment in the right wing of the building, which housed both the Lyceum and the residences of its professors.

The reconstruction of the architectural monument is scheduled to begin next year. The new Saski Palace is planned to be completed and opened in 2030, coinciding with the 20th Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
